Katherine lives in Denver, Colorado but travels to California and Nashville often. Lauren also lives in Nashville.
HOW DOES WORKING WITH LAUREN, THE ASSOCIATE PHOTOGRAPHER WORK?
Katherine will respond to all the inquiries, handles the booking and payment process and edits all of the photos. Come wedding day, Lauren will be the head photographer. The reason we have Lauren part of the team is because of the demand for it! There’s only so many weddings that Katherine can physically take on so we handpicked a trusted associate so that more couples can enjoy the Katherine Joy Wedding Experience.
Once you book Lauren, Katherine will connect Lauren in the emails so you all can get connected!
DO YOU TRAVEL?
My luggage is literally never unpacked. I’m not exaggerating. Every destination is different and I have friends all over the world (this helps me keep the travel costs LOW) so please get in touch regarding a custom quote of the associated travel fees. Click here for my travel schedule.
HOW DO WE BOOK?
I will send you the contract and the package you all decide to book through an online booking system. A 30% retainer from your package and a signed contract is required to reserve your wedding date. Dates cannot be held until both of these items are received. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to your wedding day OR we can set up payment plans if you would like.
The Support Group (THE MOST EXCITING THING WE OFFER BESIDES AWESOME PHOTOS!): Once you decide to book us, Katherine adds you on Facebook. Then adds you to a private FB group that has ALL of our couples in there! She post tips, suggestions, ideas on what’s best for photos, recommendations of other vendors (coordinators, cake, florist, etc). The other couples sometimes post in there seeking for advice from past couples who have already had their wedding. We’re extremely proud of this group and think it adds so much value to your experience!
DO WE GET ALL THE PHOTOS?
YESSSS. The only photos that aren’t delivered are the mid-blinking, blurry or unflattering photos I know you won’t want to have. The photos that are delivered range from 600-900. Sometimes I deliver over a thousand images. It just depends on how long we’re hired and how much happens on your wedding day.
SHOULD WE HIRE A SECOND PHOTOGRAPHER?
A second photographer adds another perspective to the wedding and can ease the stress when there is a situation that requires me to be in two places at once. For example:
Getting ready (I cannot be at two places at once!): If the groomsmen are getting ready the same time the bridesmaids are, it’s helpful to have a second photographer capture moments of them as well.
Ceremony: During the ceremony, the second photographer helps me capture the families reactions, the groom’s angle during the vows, and the sweet candid moments that happen so quickly while I focus on you both. The second photographer also helps capture cocktail hour as well while I capture family formals.
Candid moments: During family formals and bridal party portraits, there will endless moments happening between the families, guests and the second shooter’s job is to capture the moments happening that I won’t be able to catch.
I would recommend this if you want to get another perspective. If you are having a wedding less than 75 people for your wedding day, I would only recommend 1 photographer.

CAN I PRINT THE PHOTOS MYSELF? PRINTING RIGHTS? DO WE GET PRINTING RIGHTS?
Of course! These are your photos. With my print release form, it allows you to print any of your wedding images anywhere. You can use the print shop via the online gallery or you can print them on your own. Seeing your photos in a physical manner is the BEST way to view them.
That said, I do like to warn people that not all prints are created equal. A lot of places will print things with strange looking colors, greenish casts, too much contrast, and just in general they wont turn out the way they are supposed to look! I spend hours editing photos to make them look a specific way, and bad printing totally reverses all my hard work, which is a total bummer. Because of this, I always recommend that you order prints through me if you want to make sure they come out perfectly. I send everyone an online gallery with their images, and you can order prints at any time, in any size, in any paper, and they all come with a satisfaction guarantee or your money back!
CAN WE HAVE THE RAW FILES?
RAW (unedited) photos won’t be delivered to you – you are hiring me for my editing style and trust that I will send you all the right images.
WHEN DO WE RECEIVE OUR IMAGES?
A link to your online gallery will be sent to you up to 90 days.
CAN WE POST OUR PHOTOS ONLINE?
Of course! You’re welcome to post your photos wherever you would like. I do ask that when posting you please credit me in your caption with @katherinejoyphoto or on Facebook it’s Katherine Joy Photography & Video. This helps me tremendously with my business, more than you know!
DO YOU BACKUP YOUR IMAGES?
Yes! I have a pretty thorough backup procedure that ensures all of your images will be safe. With that said, you should still backup your files from the gallery once you receive them because it’s not guaranteed that I will have them.
CAN YOU PHOTOSHOP US?
During weddings, I take thousands of photos. And sometimes I edit over 1000 of them. Because I deliver so many edited images, I don’t have the chance to go into Photoshop on every single one and fix tiny little skin details and wrinkles or clone out trees or stuff like that. That would take eons. I might do that on a few photos that are really special, and I will do my best to clean up skin or other distractions in close-ups within my editing software, but I don’t do full-blown retouching on every wedding photo. I’ll make sure you look your best though!

DO WE MEET WITH CLIENTS BEFORE BOOKING?
Since we book over 40-50 weddings a year, 30 engagement sessions, all the time editing on weekdays, my non-stop travel schedule and we show great reviews — we feel it is not necessary. We try our best to be as transparent as possible on our website so that you know right away if we’re the right choice for you. However, if you let us know that you would rather set up a phone call/FaceTime before booking, let’s do it! After booking, we have The Support Group (which we are active on) as well as engagement sessions to meet. We also stay very active on social media, another way to get to know our personalities and don’t feel like strangers to you.
**Side note: If you do not book an engagement session with us and only book us for the wedding day, we will make sure to set up a FaceTime call beforehand to meet you both because we think it’s extremely important to connect before your wedding.
